Launch of Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability

May 4, 2021/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability

The Board of Directors for Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER), the Industrial Educational Cooperative (IEC) and Sarnia-Lambton Environmental Association (SLEA) are pleased to announce the launch of the Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability (BASES).

BASES represents a commitment to regional excellence across Sarnia-Lambton by our member companies working collaboratively with our communities, all levels of government, First Nations, local contractors, building and construction trades, and Lambton College.

All information pertaining to CAER, IEC and SLEA now lives on www.lambtonbases.ca as a central ‘hub’ for the interactive exchange of information in Sarnia-Lambton related to the protection of workers, the community, and the environment. The design and build of the new website included significant consultations with many members of our community.

The existing My Community Notification Network (MyCNN) services includes advisories for extreme weather, road closures, missing persons, and evacuations. The integration of MyCNN with BASES now offers the public the ability to subscribe to receive notifications directly from our member sites. Over the coming months each site will begin to post notices to MyCNN for public access. Our goal is to initiate this change, adjust based on feedback from the public, and have all members actively posting by the end of 2021. MyCNN is offered free of charge and more information on how to register is available at www.lambtonbases.ca.

The BASES website will provide visitors with improved access to a variety of resources, publications, and local information relevant to health, safety, and environment. Member companies are also able to post their notifications and stories onto the website for centralized regional reference.

“The foundations of CAER, IEC and SLEA include open sharing of knowledge, drive for improvement, and achieving regional goals through teamwork,” says Vince Gagner, General Manager of BASES. “All three organizations began as individual entities; however, over time, the shared goal to understand and manage risk created many natural connections. These ties evolved to create a bridge under one new brand that gives a more holistic perspective on health, safety and environment and aligns with the broader principles of Responsible Care® and sustainability,” he added.

BASES would like to recognize the people and organizations who had the vision to create the three original organizations beginning some 7 decades ago. Their legacy of innovation is not only preserved under the BASES brand – it is accelerated. With this shift, we will work to ensure that Sarnia-Lambton will continue to be recognized as the benchmark for regional collaboration both in Canada and the world.
