St. Clair Region Conservation Authority launches new Area of Concern Video
July 20, 2021/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability
The Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement between Canada and U.S. was signed in 1987 and committed both governments to remediate and restore 43 locations throughout the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River system where the local environment quality was significantly degraded (referred to as Areas of Concern). One of these Areas of Concern is the St. Clair River, an important connecting channel between Lake Huron and Lake Erie. Over the past 30+ years, significant effort has been made to restore the St. Clair River. This video will introduce viewers to the industrial history of the St. Clair River, the remedial actions that have taken place to date, and the path forward to ensure that the health of the St. Clair River is comparable to the rest of the Great Lakes.
