Today's Day: 09-24-2021
Incident Details: From Saturday, Sept. 25, through to approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, a new Shell vessel will be moved from the port of Sarnia to the Shell Manufacturing Centre in Corunna – a 30.8 km journey, at approximately 2 km/hr, through the Sarnia city core, south through Corunna and then to the Shell refinery. The vessel (70’ long x 25.8’ wide x 33’ high and 632,000 lbs.) replaces an existing unit at site. The logistics and execution of this move is being solely managed by Mammoet. To comply with permit regulations, minimize traffic disruptions, preserve the integrity of evaluated roadways, accommodate road width limitations, and allow for safe passage onto the Shell site, the travel route will be: Seaway Road in Sarnia > Harbour Road North > east on Exmouth Street > south on Murphy Road > east on Confederation Line > south on Blackwell Side Road > west on Churchill Line > south on Kimball Road > east on Petrolia Line/Hill Street > north on St. Clair Parkway to the Shell site. City of Sarnia Police and private escorts will accompany the transport through the duration of the move to manage traffic and ensure everyone’s safety. We ask the public to avoid temporary road closures located at: • Confederation Line, between HWY 40 & Blackwell Side Rd. (access permitted to local traffic only) • Kimball Rd, between Plank Rd & Petrolia Line. (access permitted to local traffic only) Additionally, due to overhead wires, a power disruption is expected in Corunna between 12 midnight and 4 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 26 We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we move this vessel to site. This investment in our facility will help to keep the Shell Manufacturing Centre in Corunna operating safely and reliably for some time to come.
