Solar Eclipse Safety
March 28, 2024/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability
Lambton County will experience a partial solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. During this phenomenon, the moon will pass in front of the sun, resulting in gradual temporary darkness between 2pm and 4:30 p.m., with the peak expected around 3:15 p.m.
It’s important to be aware of the hazards associated with this event. The eclipse poses unique risks, including potential eye damage from direct sun exposure and distractions caused by the darkness. Given our geographic location, Lambton County will be near the “path of totality,” heightening the significance of this event locally. Therefore, it’s imperative to identify and implement control measures both at home and in the workplace to mitigate risks.
To ensure your safety and well-being during the eclipse, we urge you to take the following steps:
- Review Work Plans: Identify tasks and individuals that may be affected by the eclipse’s effects and consider adjusting work schedules accordingly.
- Ensure Adequate Lighting: Arrange proper lighting for tasks that may be impacted by temporary darkness to maintain productivity and safety.
- Protect Your Eyes: Never look directly at the sun without certified eye protection. Ensure you have proper PPE if your work requires outdoor activity during the eclipse.
