Shell Manufacturing Centre Fall Turnaround
July 25, 2024/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability
The Shell Manufacturing Centre in Corunna will undergo a turnaround this fall. A turnaround is a period of planned maintenance, where parts of the facility are shut down to allow for inspection and planned maintenance activities. The upcoming turnaround will allow Shell to conduct proactive maintenance and upgrades for continued safe and reliable operation.
During the shutdown and start up periods, community members may notice elevated flaring. Notifications will be issued through Sarnia-Lambton Alerts during periods of increased flaring, and the team will strive to execute activities that involve increased noise during periods of the day that are the least disruptive. There will also be an increase in traffic as local tradespeople commute to Shell to complete this important work. To minimize the traffic impact, police will be on hand to ensure traffic flow is as unobtrusive as possible.
“We appreciate the patience of the community as we invest in the facility to keep it running safely” said Shell Downstream Corporate Relations Lead, Stephen Velthuizen.
Approximately 1,000 people will be working on the turnaround and millions of dollars injected into the local economy for materials, prefabricated equipment, staffing and more.
