2024 BASES Safety Partnership Health & Safety Forum
March 28, 2024/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability
BASES recently hosted the 2024 Safety Partnership Health & Safety Forum, bringing together safety professionals, industry leaders, and stakeholders for a morning of learning, networking, and collaboration.
The forum featured information about new initiatives emerging from BASES, including the impactful efforts of the Safety Partnership’s Mental Health Working Group. This group has been diligently working to enhance mental health support in our community, including the addition of new content to the Basic Safety Orientation and a Mental Health Resource Booklet made available for area workers. Additionally, the unveiling of the Safety Partnership’s Worker Recognition Program was met with enthusiasm. This regional safety program aims to recognize local industrial workers who actively support and continuously improve worker safety in Sarnia-Lambton.
Suncor’s Trevor Richard provided an eye-opening dropped object demonstration, showcasing the profound impact that a dropped object can have from even a short distance. As we head into turnaround season, it was a powerful reminder of the importance of being diligent in every aspect of day-to-day operations.
The morning concluded with inspiring keynote addresses by Imperial’s Stephanie Tully and Tiffany Dunn, whose powerful stories resonated deeply with the audience. Both women shared their personal experiences and professional journeys, emphasizing the crucial role of diversity and inclusion in fostering thriving workplaces. Their presentations sparked meaningful conversations and reflections on how we can all contribute to creating more inclusive and equitable environments. Their discussions on women in industry left a lasting impact, highlighting the ongoing need for efforts to support and empower women in traditionally male-dominated roles.
We are immensely grateful to our speakers, exhibitors, attendees, and planning team for their contributions to the success of the Forum. Their dedication, expertise, and enthusiasm made this event truly exceptional, and we are proud to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such a dynamic and forward-thinking community.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s forum. Your commitment to regional safety excellence is truly commendable, and we are grateful for your ongoing support.
