Ending Stigma: Mental Health in Construction
March 28, 2024/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability
In the rugged world of construction, mental health often takes a backseat. Despite the tough exterior, workers in the construction industry face unique stressors that can take a toll on their well-being. In partnership with the Safety Partnership’s Mental Health Working Group, a new Mental Health Resource for Workers Booklet has been developed as a resource for Sarnia-Lambton workers.
Accessible online HERE, this booklet is designed to provide crucial information and local resources to support mental well-being, from coping strategies to community support networks and EAP contacts.
Recognizing the power in reducing stigma surrounding mental health, BASES is launching the “StigmaEndsWithMe” initiative. Area workers will be challenged to place a sticker on their hard hat to demonstrate their commitment to ending stigma and promoting psychologically safe workplaces.
Each sticker features a QR code linked directly to the Mental Health Resource for Workers Booklet. It’s a tangible way for workers to take a stand, spark conversation, and foster a culture of openness and support on construction sites. By wearing these stickers, individuals become ambassadors for change, breaking down barriers one hard hat at a time.
Together, we’re not just building structures; we’re building a community where mental well-being is a cornerstone of success.
