Ontario Energy Minister, Todd Smith recently attended an Energy Summit on June 19, 2023, hosted by Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Imperial Sarnia Site.
The half-day event included a tour of the Imperial Sarnia Site to speak with employees and showcase the soon-to-be commissioned battery energy storage facility, which will act as North America’s largest battery energy storage solution. The summit wrapped up at Lambton College where the Minister participated in a round-table discussion with local chemical & energy industry representatives and provincial MPP’s, including Sarnia’s Bob Bailey.
BASES GM, Jason Vaillant, participated in the discussion and shared with the Minister that “Our petrochemical industry has been built on a foundation of partnership and collaboration. We are all on ‘Team Sarnia’ when it comes to our shared success, and that is what is going to help this region succeed and thrive through energy transition and into the sustainable future”.
The energy summit was held ahead of the two-day 2023 Petrochem Canada Conference, which brought dozens of industry leaders and technical experts to the area to learn about the exciting opportunities within Canada’s downstream sector. Sarnia-Lambton is clearly demonstrating its commitment to the energy transition and that it possesses the necessary capabilities to foster a circular economy and promote sustainability in the region.
